Although Native Americans had settled on the islands almost 3 centuries before the Europeans, it was discovered in the year 1493 by Portuguese explorer Christopher Columbus on a Spanish expedition. He later names the islands St. Kitts and Nevis. Later in the year 1538, it was then founded and settled by the French and became established as a settlement. Following after its creation it was later decimated in a Spanish attack on the island. Afterwards, in the year of 1623, the islands of Kitts and Nevis was then divided between the French and the Europeans in an agreement through the Kallinago tribe ( the Native Americans preemptively living on the island).

Throughout the late entirety of the 17th century, the French and British tirelessly fought over St. Kitts & Nevis , until the year 1713 when France ceded all territory over to Britain.
